Assessment & clinical review

Do I need a GP referral?

No. WMG Meds is a direct-access service. You can enquire and have a GMC-registered doctor review your case without going through your GP.

How quickly will you respond to my enquiry?

Within two hours during clinic hours (Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat-Sun 9am-6pm). Enquiries sent outside clinic hours get a reply first thing the next morning.

Do I need to attend an appointment to use WMG Meds?

No appointment is required. The clinical review is asynchronous: you complete the questionnaire and a GMC-registered doctor reviews your case in writing. If specific follow-up is clinically necessary, your clinician will arrange it directly with you.

Where is the clinic?

134 Harley Street, London W1G 7JY, part of the Westminster Medical Group premises. Nearest tube stations are Regent's Park (Bakerloo line) and Bond Street (Central and Jubilee lines).

Can I enquire on behalf of someone else?

No. The questionnaire and clinical review must be completed by the patient themselves under their own identity. We do not prescribe based on information submitted on behalf of another person.

Treatment

What medications do you prescribe?

Standard first-line treatments for hair loss: finasteride (oral, prescription-only) and minoxidil (topical, available as a pharmacy medicine), with supporting medications where clinically appropriate. In selected cases your clinician may also discuss low-dose oral minoxidil, which is used off-label for hair loss in the UK (it is licensed only as an antihypertensive). Your clinician will go through the right options for your case during clinical review, including pros, cons, off-label status where relevant and likely side effects.

How long until I see results?

Hair takes time to respond and individual results vary. Your clinician will set realistic expectations when the plan is set, explain the published evidence base for whichever medications are prescribed, and review your progress on a regular schedule.

Will I need to be on treatment forever?

For most types of hair loss, treatment needs to continue to maintain the result. If you stop, hair loss usually resumes within a few months. Your clinician will explain this clearly when the plan is set and you can discuss long-term options together.

What if treatment isn't working for me?

Your clinician will review you regularly and adjust your plan based on response. If the standard regimen isn't working, we have other options including combination therapies, dose adjustments, and onward referral for transplant assessment if appropriate.

Do you offer hair transplants?

Hair transplant surgery is offered through Westminster Medical Group, our parent clinic, not WMG Meds directly. If a transplant is the right next step for you, your WMG Meds clinician can refer you internally. Our Pre & Post Transplant Care plan supports patients before and after the procedure.

Side effects & safety

What are the side effects of finasteride?

Finasteride is a prescription-only medicine and your clinician will discuss the full side-effect profile relevant to your case before prescribing. The MHRA issued a Drug Safety Update on 29 April 2024 covering psychiatric reactions (depression, suicidal thoughts) and sexual dysfunction that may persist after stopping treatment, which introduced patient alert cards into finasteride packs and updated the product information. The MHRA strengthened these warnings in a further Drug Safety Update on 11 May 2026 which also extended precautionary advice to dutasteride. We counsel every patient on these risks. If you experience low mood, suicidal thoughts, reduced libido, erectile dysfunction or ejaculation problems you should stop the medication and contact us straight away. The medication is dispensed with the manufacturer's patient information leaflet (PIL), and the current UK PIL is held by the electronic Medicines Compendium at medicines.org.uk/emc/search?q=finasteride.

Can finasteride be taken by women?

Finasteride is licensed in the UK for use in adult men with male pattern hair loss. It is not licensed for women, and women who are or may become pregnant must not take finasteride or handle crushed or broken tablets, because the medicine can cause harm to a male foetus. Female patients enquiring about hair loss should let us know at clinical review so the appropriate alternative options (typically topical minoxidil first-line, with off-label oral options considered only in postmenopausal women) can be discussed.

What are the side effects of minoxidil?

Your clinician will discuss the full side-effect profile relevant to your case (topical vs oral, dose, duration). Topical minoxidil is most commonly associated with scalp irritation, dryness and a transient increase in shedding in the first 4 to 8 weeks (the "minoxidil shed") before regrowth. Low-dose oral minoxidil is used off-label for hair loss and can cause facial or body hypertrichosis, mild ankle oedema and occasional postural symptoms. Oral minoxidil is not suitable in pregnancy or while breastfeeding. The medication is dispensed with the manufacturer's patient information leaflet (PIL) listing every known side effect, frequency and warning. The current UK PIL is held by the electronic Medicines Compendium at medicines.org.uk/emc/search?q=minoxidil.

What if I'm taking other medications?

Tell your clinician about everything you take, including over-the-counter supplements. There are some interactions to be aware of: iron supplements reduce absorption of levothyroxine, quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics and bisphosphonates (separate doses by at least 2 hours per the UK SmPC, with NICE/BNF guidance commonly advising at least 4 hours for levothyroxine; bisphosphonates should be taken first on an empty stomach with iron at least 2 hours later); vitamin K2 antagonises warfarin and other coumarin anticoagulants; and high-dose biotin interferes with many immunoassay-based blood tests. Your clinician will check your medication list before prescribing.

Dispensing & delivery

How is my medication dispensed?

Following your clinical review, if treatment is appropriate, your prescription is sent to a GPhC-registered UK pharmacy partner who dispenses and delivers the medication directly to your door in plain, discreet packaging. The dispensing pharmacy's name and GPhC registration number are confirmed to you in writing before any order is placed.

Is the packaging discreet?

Yes. Plain outer packaging with no medication information on the outside. The internal packaging contains standard pharmaceutical labelling so you have full prescribing information.

What does the card statement show?

Payments appear as "Westminster Medical Group" on your statement, not as anything that identifies a specific medication or condition.

Cost & payment

What does treatment cost?

Pricing starts from £49 per month for the Essentials plan, £89 per month for the Advanced plan, and £199 (one-off) plus medication for Pre & Post Transplant Care. Final pricing is always confirmed at clinical review based on what is clinically appropriate for you.

When do I pay?

There is no charge for completing the assessment or for the clinical review that follows. You only pay if your prescription is approved and dispensed. Ongoing plans are billed monthly.

Do you offer monthly payment plans?

Most ongoing prescriptions are billed monthly. We do not currently offer financing. Speak to your clinician about plan options if cost is a concern, including shorter-term commitments while you assess whether treatment is working.

About WMG Meds

Who are the doctors?

All clinicians are GMC-registered doctors working under Westminster Medical Group, the CQC-registered clinical provider. They draw on general practice and private clinic experience, with continuing professional development around hair restoration medicine.

How is WMG Meds different from other online hair loss services?

Every patient is reviewed by a real GMC-registered doctor working under Westminster Medical Group, a CQC-registered private clinic on Harley Street; not a tick-box quiz signed off by a remote rubber-stamper. Dispensing is handled under documented clinical supervision by a UK-regulated pharmacy; not by an anonymous overseas warehouse. We are an established private clinical group, not a venture-funded startup.

Is my data confidential?

Yes. All clinical reviews, prescriptions, and dispensing records are held under standard medical record-keeping (CQC and GMC compliant). Your data is never shared without your explicit consent.
